ABOUT BURMA BEAR:
Burma Bear (burmabear.com) started in 2013 as a pop-up restaurant and gained popularity through secret dinner events and large festivals, including Off the Grid, Eat Real Festival, Treasure Island Music Festival. In 2016, Burma Bear opened its first brick and mortar restaurant in downtown Oakland. Burma Bear's unique dishes--a blend of traditional Burmese and American BBQ--has been featured on Zagat.com, SF Eater, East Bay Express and Thrillist. We're growing quickly, and our food can also be purchased on UberEats, Caviar, and ZeroCater.
ABOUT THE JOB:
We're a small team with a big vision, and we need your help to get us there. Burma Bear is looking for a line cook for our daily lunch service. Interest in entrepreneurship is a plus--you'll be a big part of helping us grow our business and will have opportunities to grow with the company.
~25 hours per week
8am-3pm weekdays (day shift)
Compensation $15/hour plus cash tips
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1 year experience as a line cook required
Reliable, efficient and strong attention to detail - must be able to follow instructions and recipes
Neat, clean and very conscious of sanitation
Knife skills and experience using kitchen equipment
California Food Handler's Card
Ability to lift 50lbs and stand for several hours a day
Authorized to work in the US
REQUIREMENTS:
Pre-service food prep (e.g. chopping vegetables)
Preparing meats, sauces, and salads as per Burma Bear recipes and standards
Fire lunch tickets to order
Stocking and proper inventory rotation
Clean up (sweep, mop, operate dishwasher, etc.)
Provide feedback to Chef Hubert Lim on possible improvements
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:
You'll gain an intimate understanding of how a food startup operates. You'll work very closely with Chef and Owner Hubert Lim. This job is perfect for someone who has ever considered starting a business or restaurant.
